New Supported Volunteering Partnership
A new partnership has developed with Wolverhampton College's SEN provision supporting young people with severe learning difficulties. Following an invitation to speak to the students in January, the teachers and students have set up a donation point in their classroom and are encouraging the whole college to donate.
As part of their Young Enterprise Individual Support Programme they arranged to drop off the donations to our warehouse and volunteer for the morning. This provided an opportunity to give 2 students some travel training on the local bus, accompanied by support staff. The students enjoyed it and are now part of the regular Friday morning team. They weight in the food and add the ‘With Love from Jesus’ stickers to the donations.
The feedback from the staff is very positive: ‘putting the stickers on is work experience for them; it gives them a bit of independence.’
The comment ‘Fantastic’ from one of the students who uses a GridPlayer to communicate with say it all.
