Why Foodbanks Are Needed
For some it is still hard to believe that there really is food poverty in the UK in the 21st Century. The stories our team hear from the agencies we work with demonstrate that behind every referral statistic are precious people experiencing real difficulties.
Here are a few examples from July’s referrals:

  • Survivor of human trafficking
  • Multiple medical conditions
  • Literacy problems resulting in a benefit claim being rejected
  • Men moving from a hostel for the homeless to a halfway house

The Spirit of Generosity
One of the highlights of the day for the team is receiving the food donations and finding out where they have come from.As well as the faithful weekly/monthly donations from Churches across the City that underpin the project,we receive fabulous ‘one-offs’ from a wide variety of sources.
During July, these included:

  • Councillors Coffee Morning at the Civic Centre
  • Young People at Soul Survivor,Stafford
  • Schools Human Resources Team
  • Probation Service

For all who support The Well in any way, may the love of Christ continue to compel you (2 Corinthians 5v14)…to show His love through practical acts of kindness…and may you know this love for yourselves.

PS: If you like to donate food, don’t forget to check out our ‘Donate Supplies’ page for regular updates on current items we need.

The Well will be closed from Friday 5th July – Monday 15th July, and will reopen as usual on Tuesday 16th July.
If you are in need of emergency food, please go the the ‘Are You in Need’ page for details of other agencies who provide this. If you wish to donate food, please can you hold on to it until the week of 16th July

It has been a busy and productive few weeks at The Well. The addition of this website seems to be appreciated, as it helps the public understand how we work. We have also caught up with other work enabling new volunteers to join the team. Everyone works so hard, and its lovely to see friendships growing. We aim to pray together each day, and it’s always a joy.
The increase in referrals we reported in April has continued this month, feeding a total of 896 people. We are getting more frequent reports from the agencies we work with of families not having eaten for a number of days which is a real concern to us.
Many who receive the food are extremely thankful. One recipient left a message on the answer phone to express her thanks, and another insisted on giving one of our drivers £1 towards the project.
Thankyou as always, to everyone who has donated food, finance, time, prayers and good wishes to us over the past month.
We’re praying for abundance to meet the need, and will keep you updated!

The generosity of individuals and churches enabled us to collect 4 pallets of fabulous food at the weekend from His Church. The warehouse is now overflowing with great quality food. Our team will be very busy this week sorting it all out…the ‘stickathon’ is on!

This year’s statistics confirm a significant increase in the number of referrals and people fed compared to last year – almost a 100% increase.
