It all Started…
Spring 2006
God speaks to a local Pastor, who had been praying about how the church he led should care for people in need in Wolverhampton. A couple are asked to oversee the work, leaflets are sent to 10 statutory agencies, and an answer phone is set up for referrals. The church community donate food and baby toiletries, and ‘King’s Caring Friends-Food Parcel Delivery Service’ is launched.
29th August 2006
First referral received.
The work develops in a small way, feeding more people as more agencies made referrals (click here for statistics). We also support Horizon House (PCT-Addiction Services) delivering Christmas Hampers each December.
September 2008
We join The Trussell Trust Foodbank Network and change our name to Wolverhampton Foodbank.
Spring 2010
God clearly directs us to take a leap of faith – for the Project Leader to do the work full-time with no guaranteed salary and to move the project out of one church so it can expand into a city-wide Christian project. Charity status is gained. Finance, equipment and connections begin to come in abundance as we trust God and pray.
September 2010
God miraculously provides us with rent-free space for 18 months!
The Team begins to grow rapidly, as do the number of churches across the City supporting the project, as well as the number of agencies we receive referrals from.
Spring 2011
Trussell Trust Foodbank Network membership ends as our project was developing along different lines.
March 2012
We move to our current warehouse space-taking a massive step of faith.
April 2013
Our new trading name THE WELL is launched with the logo and website.
